Media Round-Up: March 2025

In response to announcements made earlier this month to cut disability benefits ahead of the budget, we coordinated an open letter with allies from the women’s sector, calling on the Chancellor to rethink this decision. This was covered in the Mirror. 

On the day of the Budget, our director Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson joinedWoman’s Hour to discuss our main concerns about the proposed changes to PIP, arguing that it would remove a lifeline for many Disabled women.

WBG’s Erin Mansell was also on Compass’s It’s bloody complicated podcast to discuss the budget, and Senior Research and Policy Officer Ignacia Pinto appeared on BBC 5 Live the morning of the Spring Statement, and on Resonance FM later in the evening.

Our response to the Spring Statement was picked up by the live reporting team at the Guardian, the Independent and the BBC. It was also referenced in the Big Issue, Labour Hub, Birmingham Mail.

In March, Prof Susan Himmelweit, Chair of WBG’s Policy Advisory Group, and Ignacia Pinto wrotea piece on gender and tax for the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Senior Public Affairs Officer Amy Brooker wrote a blog for Oxfam’s website making the case for investment in social infrastructure.
