- Our director Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson was interviewed for a piece in the Evening Standard looking into falling birth rates in London. She explains how the lack of affordable and accessible early education and childcare is a huge barrier for people to have children, while at the same time many underpaid childminders are forced to leave London or the occupation altogether due to the high cost of living in the capital.
- Based on our new report examining how different countries in the OECD have addressed the cost-of-living crisis, the New European published a comment piece by WBG’s Erin Mansell in which she argues that Labour should learn from Europe on the cost of living crisis.
- WBG’s Senior Policy and Research Officer Ignacia Pinto wrote an opinion piece for the Chartist explaining
why Hunt’s Spring Budget was another blow to women and the economy. - A piece in the i newspaper looked at ‘How minimum wage rises are plunging carers into debt’, quoting our director Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson who made the case for returning to a universal system for child benefit.
- The BBC reported on how women are often more severely impacted by steep rent rises and bad housing conditions, quoting our Deputy Director Dr Zubaida Haque who pointed out that “Many women face harassment and intimidation from landlords, a reflection of persistent power imbalances which can also leave women feeling too afraid to challenge unfair practices or to assert their rights for fear of retaliation, eviction, rent increases or further harassment,”.
