Data for gender responsive budgeting: a note for Oxfam from the Women’s Budget Group
WBG was commissioned by Oxfam to produce this paper on data for gender responsive budgeting.
Background
The collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated data is central to Gender-Responsive Budgeting (GRB) initiatives. GRB initiatives often involve an analysis of the impact of budgets or parts of budgets on different groups of women and men disaggregated by other variables such as income, race/ethnicity, sexuality, disability, age, and whether they live in rural or urban areas.
Detailed data is important because it helps us see the situation of different groups of people as well as how inequalities intersect to make some groups particularly more vulnerable than others, and the likely impact that policy changes will have on them.
