Consultation Response
Our response to the consultation on the Application of Zero Hours Contracts Measures to Agency Workers
In our response to the Department for Business and Trade Consultation on the Application of Zero Hours Contracts Measures to Agency Workers, we highlighted the importance of ensuring the protections to zero-hours workers outlined in the Employment Rights Bill are adequately extended to agency workers. We emphasise the urgent need to eliminate exploitative labour practices that disproportionately affect women, who are overrepresented in zero-hours contracts and for whom lack of notice, cancelled shifts and the absence of guaranteed minimum hours can pose additional barriers when combined with caring responsibilities. We join other organisations in calling for agency workers to be granted the stability necessary to work with dignity, and urge the Government to place the burden of responsibility for these new protections on both the agency and the end-hirer, to guarantee agency workers are not left behind.
